Empowering our youth and families

The Fresh Roots Development Corporation (FRDC) is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering at-risk youth in the metro Detroit area. Our mission is to break cycles of generational trauma and foster long-term success through holistic, trauma-informed support.

At the heart of our work is the understanding that many behavioral and mental health challenges stem from unresolved childhood trauma. FRDC provides targeted services that help youth and families heal, grow, and thrive—especially those affected by poverty, violence, systemic inequality, and limited access to resources.

This includes, but is not limited to, youth whose parents are incarcerated, in rehabilitation for substance abuse, or impacted by domestic violence. These young people often face emotional and educational barriers that require wraparound support and community engagement.

We also promote youth development through initiatives focused on healthy lifestyle habits, emotional wellness, leadership skills, and civic responsibility.

By addressing the whole child and their environment, FRDC creates pathways to resilience, equity, and opportunity for Detroit’s most vulnerable youth.

The Fresh Roots Development Corporation is a movement that aims to empower at-risk youth and create a brighter future for generations to come. We provide resources that promote healthy habits, social-emotional learning, leadership development, and civic engagement. Our fundamental principles of equity, social justice, and anti-racism guide us in addressing systemic barriers that hinder young people and their families from accessing essential resources. Through collaboration with local schools, community organizations, businesses, and government agencies, we build a network of support that enriches the lives of young people and their families.
