A Trauma-Informed  Program

This 11-month pilot provides consistent academic tutoring, trauma-informed behavioral health support, caregiver engagement, and wraparound resources to youth ages 8 through young adults up to 24 years of age. We’re not here to patch problems, we’re here to plant roots that grow justice, safety, and opportunity from the ground up.

The Fresh Roots Project: Redefining Futures

The Fresh Roots Project is a transformative 8-week program designed to inspire, empower, and uplift at-risk youth in the Detroit metro area. Rooted in creativity, leadership, and mentorship, this initiative aims to provide participants with the tools and support they need to overcome obstacles and unlock their potential.

Through a combination of art, music, poetry, dance, leadership development, and career exploration, participants will explore their talents, build confidence, and develop life skills in a safe and nurturing environment. Guided by experienced mentors and community leaders, The Fresh Prince Project not only fosters personal growth but also strengthens family and community connections.

Any Family Can Be Overwhelmed By Circumstances

Challenges often arise in many forms: a child’s repeated behavioral issues at school leading to suspensions, a parent’s prescription for pain medication evolving into substance use and neglect, a sudden layoff resulting in unpaid bills and the threat of eviction, or the devastating impact of domestic violence and incarceration. Any one of these — or a combination of them — can quickly push a family into crisis.

The Building Families Matter initiative harnesses the collective strength of families and communities to address the most critical needs of children and their families, cultivating hope, healing, and shared responsibility. This program guides families through a transformative process of discovery, planning, and action to identify their unique strengths, challenges, and aspirations. By honoring each family’s cultural background and leveraging available resources, families collaboratively create a personalized plan for success rooted in the core principles of Protection, Support, and Development.

Fresh Prince Safe Haven

The Fresh Haven program focuses on safeguarding the well-being of children and families affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and child abuse. In families where tensions between parents escalate into conflict or violence, children often suffer from long-term emotional and physical consequences. Whether witnessing parental disputes or having unsupervised contact with offending parents, these children experience devastating effects that can impact their future.

The Fresh Haven initiative is committed to prioritizing the safety, security, and dignity of every family member. Through careful design and structured protocols, such as staggered arrival times, separate entrances, and other safety measures, we ensure a secure environment that protects both children and adults. Our program focuses on promoting safe, supportive, and positive interactions between children and their parents, regardless of past trauma or conflict.

Career Planning

At Fresh Roots Development Corporation (FRDC), we understand that career planning is essential to achieving long-term success and personal fulfillment. Our Career Planning Program is designed to equip youth and adults with the knowledge, skills, and resources to take control of their career journeys. By providing comprehensive support, including one-on-one coaching, workshops, seminars, and webinars, we help participants identify their career goals, develop practical skills, and make informed decisions about their futures. Additionally, we assist participants in locating job opportunities, though we do not promise job placement. Our goal is to empower participants to take the necessary steps toward securing meaningful employment.
